Born in Malaga in 1997 and currently based in Leipzig, Germany, Miguel Márquez graduated in Orchestral Conducting at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Málaga and at the same time trained in choral conducting. He also studied flute, piano and singing.

       Since his debut at the age of 17, he has been constantly searching for new ideas and experiences in his profession, which have led him to study and train in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Bulgaria and Moldova with internationally renowned teachers such as Miguel Romea, Guy Braunstein, Nicolás Pasquet, Johannes Schlaefli, Rodolfo Fischer, Colin Metters, Barbara Rucha, Mathias Foremny, Ekkehard Klemm...

"If music teaches us anything, it's to be better and to listen with humility".

       He has conducted, among others, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova, the Varna State Opera Orchestra, the Berliner Sinfonietta, the Youth Orchestra of Andalusia (OJA), the Musikakademie Basel Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra of Malaga (JOPMA), the Orchestra of the Summer Courses of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, the Orquesta de Profesores y Alumnos del CPM Manuel Carra, the Symphonic Band of the JOPMA, the Ensemble Cinemático and the Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras, Symphonic Band and Contemporary Music Workshop of the Conservatorio Superior de Málaga. He has also conducted in the framework of prestigious international festivals such as the Leipzig Bach Festival (2023) and the Malaga International Jazz Festival (2021).

       Since 2022 he has been a member of the Orquesta Joven de Andalucía's Young Conductors' Pool, where he has assisted Carlos Domínguez-Nieto in Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 and Lucía Marín in Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and Verdi's overture La Forza del Destino. In this programme he has also conducted chamber programmes such as Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale and Strauss' Metamorphosis in its version for septet. Currently he also conducts the NaSch Campusorchester, an ensemble based in Leipzig, with which he is participating in a production of Brundibár in a state opera project for children.  Previously he has been principal conductor of the BM Ntra. Sra. del Rosario de Málaga, of the JOPMA Symphonic Band (2016-2017) and artistic director and founder of the Cénit Wind Band (CEWIB), a project aimed at performing premieres and performances of contemporary works for symphonic band.

 CHOIR

His deep interest in choral sound led him to train in choir conducting with masters such as Marco Antonio García de Paz, Marco Berrini, Basilio Astúlez and Andreas Becker. Between 2019 and 2022 he was the chief conductor of the Coral Stella Maris de Málaga, with which he performed concerts, choral meetings and symphonic projects such as Handel's Messiah, organised by La Caixa and performed at the Teatro Cervantes together with Edward Higginbottom, the Instruments of Time and Truth orchestra and the Oxford Voices Choir. He has conducted vocal groups such as the Coral Stella Maris, the Coro de la Real Hdad. del Sepulcro de Málaga and the Coro del CSM Málaga, and has prepared the choir for the world premiere of Tete Leal's Five Elements for the Malaga Jazz Festival and the Coral Stella Maris for Handel's Messiah.

OPERA AND THEATER MUSIC

In the field of performing arts he participated as assistant conductor in the premiere of IKARUS UND DER TRAUM VOM FLIEHEN (2022), an opera performed by and for children premiered at the Leipzig Musical Comedy (Musikalische Komödie), part of the Leipzig Opera (Oper Leipzig). He is currently preparing the off-stage choirs and orchestras for a production of Hans Krása's Brundibár, which will be performed entirely with children from the city of Leipzig and with refugee children from the war in the Ukraine. In past seasons he was the musical director of Paseando por Broadway, written by Araceli Campos and performed at the Teatro Alameda de Málaga (now Teatro del Soho-CaixaBank) and at the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático.
